I have purchased the stainless flat cap, stainless loop cap, poly loop cap, and poly sports cap... To my surprise, I find myself using the stainless flat cap more than any other. (I never submerse it when washing). The strongest cap is the poly loop cap. The sports cap works but since you can't squeeze the bottle to get more liquid out like a plastic bottle they had to make a release valve in the cap which works great - BUT squeaks rather loudly. Since I use my bottle mostly at church, work, and public non-sports places, this doesn't work well for my needs. The stainless steel loop top is my second most used top, but seems weaker than the others. However, I have had my tops for several months now without incident.

I was unhappy with my sport cap (first gen, not the new one) and purchased the stainless-steel flat top. I love it. First, it is quite well-made and sturdy. I don't feel like I'm going to break or otherwise damage the product. Second, it unscrews quite smoothly from the bottle and for whatever reason, takes much less effort to unscrew it than the plastic cap so it's easy to remove one-handed. These two things combine to make this an excellent product. Just remember to tighten it well!

I purchased the 40 oz stainless steel bottle with the sip (pull up) lid and did not like that one due to the noise it makes when you drink as well as not being able to get a full drink at once...so I purchased this one as soon as I saw it. I have owned it for probably about a year & I love it. Not 1 problem with it.

This is a worthwhile alternative to the plastic cap that comes with the Klean Kanteen. I am glad I read other reviews before purchasing it, though--it is true that the "Made in China" sticker leaves a gummy residue on the cap, so I just wiped at it with a warm cloth until it was mostly gone, and then after a few washings, it disappeared all together. I am glad I read not to soak it because it is clear that it would retain water. So I just rinse it well with vinegar water and it's good to go. I appreciate having an alternative to plastic!

I ordered my flat stainless steel cap at the same time that I ordered my KK water bottle. I prefer the flat look and I didn't want plastic touching my water. The only reason I'm giving it only 4 stars is because I've noticed that I have to screw the stainless steel cap on tight, otherwise it leaks. The threads are not very tight. I have not had problems with the cap filling with water but it has never been submerged. Just make sure you screw it on tightly!!
